What Ondato is
Ondato is an EU-based AI biometric KYC vendor used across regulated industries — banking, insurance, fintech, and adult content. It runs the modern, real-time version of identity verification: the user holds up their government-issued ID, takes a selfie or short liveness video, and the AI cross-checks the document against the face on-camera in seconds.
Footly uses Ondato to answer two questions: is this creator 18 or older, and is the person on the camera the same person on the ID? That's the entire scope. Ondato is not collecting your address, phone number, or anything else for Footly's purposes.
Ondato vs manual ID review
Several legacy fetish-content platforms still use manual ID review — a human reviews uploaded ID images during business hours, sometimes with back-and-forth requests for additional photos. Wait times of 3–7 days are common.
Ondato's biometric flow runs in real time. Most Footly creators are verified in minutes. The trade-off — and it's a net positive — is that there's no human eyeballing the ID image during normal verification. Liveness detection prevents spoofing with a printed photo, and the AI matches face geometry against the document.
Why this matters for privacy
Manual ID review means humans you don't know are looking at your government ID. Biometric flows like Ondato's process the document in software, store it under regulated EU data-protection standards, and don't hand the image around. For most creators, that's the safer model.
What gets collected (and what doesn't)
Ondato collects, on Footly's behalf, only what's needed for the two checks:
- A government-issued photo ID (passport, driver's license, or national ID)
- A live biometric selfie or short liveness video
That's the full scope. Footly does not request — and Ondato does not collect for Footly's purposes — your address, phone number, occupation, or social-media accounts.
Footly itself stores none of this. ID images and biometric data live entirely with Ondato (EU, GDPR-compliant). Footly retains only tax-related records (name, country, payout totals) — required for 1099 reporting on US creators and for compliance generally. Footly never stores government ID images.
Anonymity to buyers
The Ondato verification result is tied to internal identifiers within Footly's systems — never to your creator profile, display name, or content. Buyers see your display name and the content you've published. They do not see your legal name, ID, country, or any KYC data.
Many successful Footly creators never show their face. The verification check is purely internal — it confirms to Footly that you are who you say you are and that you're old enough to sell. Buyers are shown only what creators choose to publish.
Deletion: self-serve, no support needed
Creators can delete their own account from creator settings without contacting support. The flow is self-serve — no waiting for an email reply, no friction.
For the KYC data held by Ondato, creators can submit a deletion request directly to Ondato under GDPR. Because Footly never stored the underlying ID images, there's nothing on the Footly side to delete in addition. Tax-related records may be retained for the period required by US tax law, then deleted.
Common creator concerns
"Will my ID get leaked?" Footly never has the image to leak — Ondato does. Ondato is a regulated EU KYC provider with established data-protection standards used in banking and insurance.
"Can buyers find my real identity?" No. The verification result is internal-only. Your display name and content are the only things visible to buyers.
"What if I don't want a biometric on file?" Some KYC is required to operate legally as an adult-content platform — Footly is required to confirm creators are 18+. Ondato's biometric flow is the modern industry standard for this; the alternative is a slower manual-review process where humans handle your ID image. If you're uncomfortable with either, an adult-content marketplace may not be the right fit.
"What if I move countries or my ID changes?" You can re-verify any time via Ondato. The original verification doesn't need to be revoked first.
